Bothy

'“A basic shelter, usually left unlocked and available for anyone to use free of charge. They can be found across Scotland.”

We took a trip for my birthday this year to Skye, to stay in a Bothy known as The Lookout. It was a beautiful place to stay with views over the Outer Hebrides, it is a popular whale watching spot, although we did not see any. For the second night we wanted somewhere warm, although beautiful, The Lookout lacks a fire. We found ourselves in the Cairngorms and after a night hike we arrived at Glen Feshie, in probably the fanciest bothy I’ve stayed in, complete with a massive log burner for those bitter Scottish nights.
